🤰 1. When Does the Third Trimester Start and End?

The third trimester begins at week 28 and lasts until you give birth, usually around week 40, though full-term birth is considered anywhere between 37 and 42 weeks.

You may notice a significant shift in your energy, your body, and your emotions during this time. This is when nesting often kicks in, sleep gets trickier, and you're likely juggling final preparations for baby’s arrival.

👜 2. What Should I Pack in My Hospital Bag?

Most experts recommend having your bag ready between 34 and 36 weeks. Here are a few essentials to include:

For You:

  • Maternity pads & comfy underwear

  • A loose, breathable nightie

  • Lip balm, hair ties & toiletries

  • Water bottle & snacks

  • Phone charger with a long cable

  • Birth plan and notes

For Baby:

  • Sleepsuits and vests

  • Hat and mittens

  • Blanket and going-home outfit

  • Nappies and wipes

🧾 Tip: You can download our full Hospital Bag Checklist in the Blume Digital Shop – and get 20% off from 12-19th August using code BIRTHDAY20

😣 3. Is This Pain Normal in the Third Trimester?

Some discomfort is normal, but it’s important to listen to your body. Common third trimester aches include:

  • Pelvic pressure or pelvic girdle pain (PGP): Caused by your body loosening joints for birth. Support belts and gentle yoga can help (our Pelvic Stability Flow is perfect for this).

  • Backaches and rib pain: Try our on-demand Restorative Yoga sessions and warm compresses.

  • Braxton Hicks contractions: These are “practice contractions” that feel like mild tightening. If they become regular or painful, call your midwife.

🛏 4. How Can I Sleep Better?

It’s no secret, sleep gets harder the further along you are. Here’s what can help:

  • Side sleeping (left side is best for blood flow)

  • A pregnancy pillow or placing a pillow between your knees

  • Gentle evening yoga and calming breathing

  • Short meditations to quiet a racing mind (check out our Sleep Audio Collection)

Remember, rest doesn’t have to mean 8 straight hours, naps and quiet moments count, too.

🧘‍♀️ 5. How Should I Prepare My Body and Mind for Birth?

The best thing you can do is feel informed and confident. That doesn’t mean knowing every detail, it means tuning into your body, making space to breathe, and feeling supported.

💡 Our on-demand Dream Yoga for Pregnancy & Postnatal includes:

  • Birth prep flows

  • Breathing & meditation audios

  • Affirmations & birth plan guides

🍼 6. What Are Signs That Labour Is Near?

Every labour is different, but common signs that birth might be approaching include:

  • Increased Braxton Hicks contractions

  • Loss of the mucus plug (a jelly-like discharge)

  • ‘Lightening’ – when baby drops into your pelvis

  • Nesting instincts

  • Diarrhoea or flu-like symptoms

If contractions become regular and painful or your waters break, contact your birth team.

✨ Bonus Q: Why Am I So Emotional?

Blame it on hormones, fatigue, and the huge life transition you’re about to experience. It’s totally normal to feel a mix of excitement, fear, gratitude, and anxiety in the same breath.

Be gentle with yourself. Rest when you can, talk it out, and don’t hesitate to reach out for support.
